Intermittent No Mouse Pointer Movement
I have a Dell Latitude D610 and more often than not, I lose mouse pointer movement. It is usually OK when first booted, but with subsequent reboots I lose mouse pointer movement. I have tried a known good keyboard from another D610 with no success. I have tried disconnecting the ‘palm rest’ or touch pad cable from the system board and try to use the pointing stick with no success. I have replaced the system board under warranty from Dell. Yesterday the mouse pointer was moving and I ran Dell diagnostics v1235.1 from CD overnight with no issues at all, 92 passes OK in custom tests.
Today I have lost the mouse pointer movement again. I have stripped the laptop of the: HDD, modem, Mini PCI card (wireless), and the batteries. It has only the 256MB of memory and a DVD drive in it. BIOS is version A06 set to defaults. I tried Dell Diagnostics v1235.1 booting from CD > got the “Warning No mouse was detected” > Symptom Tree > Mouse, Touchpad, or Pointing Stick Non-Responsive > “Error Code 3500:0119 Msg: Could not disable mouse. Keyboard controller did not acknowledge a mouse disable command” and the diagnostics hangs. Repeated rebooting of the Dell diagnostics repeats the error and the hang issue.
Suggestions? Possible defective replacement system board?

Palm rest (touch pad) has been disconnected and tried to use just the pointing stick (keyboard) with no success. End user does not use an external mouse and an external mouse is not recognized on Dell diagnostics. I’ve called Dell Warranty Parts Direct Dedicated Technical Support and they have elected to send me warranty replacements for the system board, keyboard, and palm rest. I would think that the ‘shotgun’ approach should resolve it. I will update the thread after the parts are installed and tested. Thanks for your suggestions.

Dell Warranty Parts Direct Dedicated Technical Support sent me warranty replacements for the system board, keyboard, and palm rest. The ‘shotgun’ approach resolved it. Dell Diagnostics and numerous reboots for the past 2 days and the mouse pointer is working OK.
