Jumpy display with distorted everything

Question

- Latitude c850 - WinXP Pro yesterday my display started jumping with various colors taking up the screen. (weird to describe but it looks like the code from the matrix only the colors seem to be displaced from other areas of the screen). the colors seem to be in front of the open windows and it gets generally worse as the computer stays on becoming completely unusable after about 10 mins. this also slows everything down quite a bit. i used a second monitor and the same thing happened. which led me to the video driver possibility, but i reinstalled that and it did nothing. also ran a virus scan (AVG) and came up with nothing but a few adware/tracking cookie issues. nothing out of the ordinary... so, is my notebook going to make it? i have no idea.... im a bit tech savvy, but not savvy enough to play with too much hardware. any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanx! i'll give it a shot. seems to look like a video ram issue.... not sure where to go from here. i don't know if i can allocate ram on my own, or if a new video card is what i need. the (seemingly) odd thing is that the display doesn't need to be "taxed" any more than just the startup. the problem occurs w/o intense graphic displays (and im sure with as well.
