Keyboard Replacement

Greetings,

My 1st post on this forum.

I am a freelance web designer from India. Bought my dell in September 2010 & left for the UK in the same month for further studies. I am currently in Newcastle, UK. Within a month of buying this Dell Studio laptop, my keyboard has started dying out of me. Keys getting locked & times it doesn't allow me to type at all. One key is just broken & I am desperately looking for keyboard replacement.

So I started looking out for a dell service center in Newcastle. There isn't one, so I looked for a service center near by this place. Turns out that there is only 1 dell service center in the UK which is far far away from where I am currently. Tried to get in touch with chat support, but that was in vain. So at this point in time, I am stuck!

Thats when I decided to turn to communities to seek help. Is there is a easier fix for my Keyboard replacement case?

Thank you all for listing,

Amit

Keyboards are user-replaceable.  However, unless you purchased an international warranty, you won't have support in the UK.

I haven't purchased any international warranty.

Also, I am not sure how to replace a laptop keyboard. I wouldn't mind paying for support on installing a new keyboard if dell can ship this part to my UK address.

Even if someone can help me finding a dell service center in my area (newcastle upon tyne), I can take over from there.

First step:  contact Dell India and have the warranty transferred to you in the UK.  Otherwise, they won't send you  the replacement part.

Then you can either have the keyboard replaced at your home or office (if you have chosen onsite service) or they'll send you a shipping box that you use to send the system for repair (if you didn't buy onsite service , this is how the repair is handled).  Or, they'll send you a keyboard that you replace yourself.
