You absolutely will not get a refund - if you hold out for that, you will get nothing.
Chances are you will be offered a refurbished notebook - if that's not acceptable, you can try for a new one -- but you'll have to talk to Dell about it.
What do you reckon should be done? They replaced my motherboard (twice) and heat sync (thrice) and HDD and processor etc (once) Finally agreed to replace the whole system itself, this is what the executive told me, complete replacement. But now this series is out of stock rather discontinued, so I'm wondering what's next! I definitely don't want refurbished laptop ... i'd better go for refund if that's the case
Why would it be a refurbished one? I already had a replacement for 1557 and I got 1558 with a lot of upgradation as 1557 was no more in production :emotion-3:
Hi, if you would of asked whoever agreed the replacment they would of confirmed whether it is going to be a new one or not. have you had any spec confirmation?
They said it won't be a refurbished system but a NEW one! :emotion-1: ... the specs haven't been confirmed yet ... nor has my old system been picked up ... so i'm waiting!
Any update on this? I'm in the same boat apparently for the same reasons. Overheating and laptop would reboot itself. Many parts replaced and finally they agreed to replace the laptop. But concerned I will get a refurbished one. How can I insure I don't? They are not good on communication and the only number I know is the tech support number. Thanks for any help.
Thanks for the feedback. My XPS Studio is a 1640, fairly loaded. I would hope the replacement would be an XPS. Is there anyway of checking or does it just show up at your door along with a box to return your old one? Also, do you know if there is an opportunity to upgrade it with a few extra $$$ should a person desire? For instance if I can pay extra and get a better processor I might be willing. BTW - I am in AZ. Not sure I understand your comment about rumors? In any case, thanks again for your help.
Where are you located? I must say you shouldn't believe rumors! I've replaced nearly 3 laptops and i must say I've got new ones. All part replacement is refurbished but whole system is new.
I got my studio replaced with a XPS 15 L502x and I must say xps is a million times better! And i've got premium support for it too!
It does heat up, more than the studio, but then they say it's heavy duty system so ....! I've no complaints now ... it's bulky but still very nice! :emotion-21:
AZ? ... the policy is replacement of like for like, so if you had a 4 GB ram (2x2) you will get exactly the same. If that is not available then you will get a higher config. From what i know studio xps is still in manufacturing ... so I believe that you will get another studio xps only. If not then xps 15 or so.
And sad, but you can't pay anything to get a new one. Infact my new machine is significantly higher config but lower price that what I paid initially. So the policy is like for like.
Rumors is what I faced when i posted such questions, people said it's refurbished (there will be a logo i guess green colored sayin refurbished) some said i'll get the same studio etc. It all depends on your local place.
When they call you to config your pc and finalize the new m/c you can trade off a few things, like i had the x color I traded it off for a 2GB video card and bought a polyvinyl skin made as per my choice.
I understand you had your Studio 15 replaced by an XPS 15 L502x. I am facing the same issues with my Studio 1558 and they have just sent me the quote for the XPS15. How has your system been? Do you face any issues with the XPS as you did with the Studio 15?
I had almost all the parts replaced twice and the system is still going insane! I just wanted to know if the XPS is better and what issues do you face with it, if any?
Yes, it was replaced and I am quite happy now. The new system (XPS 15), though not as stylish as the Studio, is a much better build and more robust. I've had it a while now and have not experienced any problems.

Only way to know is to ask - it's all on a case by case basis.

Thanks, I hope I don't have any over heating issues like I did with the Studio 15!
