Laptop upgrades
I currently own an Inspiron 1525. I am looking to upgrade the processor and memory. I already have the dimms sorted but was wondering about the cpu.
Mainly which cpu's would be compatible as the cooling of a laptop is limited.
The current cpu is an: Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 @ 1.83 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2Mb cache.
The ones which I am looking at are:
Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T5850 ( http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SLA4C.html )
or
Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T7600 ( http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/QO/QOJD.html )
I was wondering if anyone knew if they were compatible with my laptop. They have the same FSB, are the same socket but will the laptop be able to work properly?
Also can I use a processor with a faster FSB or will it not work well?
or
Could I use a Quad core processor instead?
And can I install window's 7 64bit as the processor's have EM64T tech (are 64 bit processors)?

The T7200, T7400 and 7600 are the fastest ones that will work.
None of the quads will work - nor will any of those with a P-designation, or anything with more than the 667 MHz bus.
ONLY the mobile Core 2s will work subject to the above.

It'll work with any Core 2 but won't be much of an advantage on this system. Even with 64-bit you'll see only about 3.2 G of RAM (assuming you install 4).

But can I use a 64bit OS?

why? are laptop dimms that much different from desktop ones. When I installed 4gb of RAM in my desktop it only showed up as 3.25 when using xp pro. But when I upgraded to windows 7 64, I had access to the full 4gb.
I also heard that there is a way you can allocate ram to your intergrated GPU using the bios. First of all, Is this possible? and if it is, If I used 0.8gb of ram for the GPU would I still get my 3.2gb of ram for my CPU (as the OS will no longer see it as normal memory)?

The chipset in the 1525 doesn't support memory remapping, so you can't use all 4G.
No, there's no way to manually allocate video RAM in this system.

Hi,I am currently running Windows-10 32-bit on my Inspiron 1525 powered by T5750 processor with 3GB RAM. I want to upgrade my machine to 64-bit version of Windows 10 and upgrade my RAM eventually. I am thinking of upgrading it to 8GB. I want to make sure whether 8GB RAM is supported by 1525 machine and have you tested it anytime?
Also, Please suggest me the most advanced processor that is supported and well tested on 1525 machine.
