Latitude 2100 Replacement Display Problems

I recently replaced the 10.1 inch display in my Latitude 2100, everything works perfectly except the max resolution is now 1024 X 576.  This causes some unfortunate problems with Windows 7 Professional installation that I have.

When I originally got it, the standard resolution for my display was 1024 X 600.  I understand that the original, native resolution on this machine was 1024 X 576, but, by the time I got mine, they were shipping with a firmware fix allowing the installed display to work at 1024 x 600.  Apparently, replacing the display eliminated the firmware fix.  There must be some way to locate a firmware updater or specialized display driver that can restore the full funtionality of my display.

At present, my computer doesn't even recognize the display until after it boots, and the display is using a generic PnP.  This kind of scares me because it seriously limits my troubleshooting cababilities when something serious goes wrong.

I am hoping that someone else has experienced this problem and has successfully resolved it.

You need to install a screen that is supported by the system - screens are electronically identified to the system by a tag hard coded on the control board AND in the system BIOS.  Notebooks only recognize those screens they're shipped with from the factory - they won't identify any other screens correctly.

Well, what I installed was a new, Dell-branded replacement part for the Latitude 2100 sold to me by a dealer with a good reputation.

If the system doesn't recognize the display in BIOS setup (i.e., can't identify the resolution), it's an incompatible display, whatever the reputation of the dealer may have been.
