Latitude D600- problems
I have a d600 that had been running well since dec. 2010, until a month ago. I went to power it up- primary disk not found- naturally I turned it off removed and placed hd back to insure fully in place-no fix. Next I checked bios, no drive detected-So here's where it gets messy-I took a new 30g hd which I was able to install an installation of xp and after about 2 re-boots it to is not to be found bios/etc.....except if I run diagnostic, which also finds error of no bootable drive, and let it sit a while on the boot options menu F12 the hd kicks on ( loudly ) and now I can boot up windows and the drive is present again. Until I restart, back to square 1. My old hd has not been detected even after I try the diagnostic/boot menu trick. I am puzzled and not sure why or what could cause this- maybe processor, motherboard, hd adapter plug? :emotion-7:
I greatly appreciate your time and help

Definitely sounds like the HD controller on the mainboard/motherboard. I think you're out of luck. It is not modular so cannot be replaced. I've found that good Latidue D-series laptops can be found on craigslist at very reasonable prices.
Good luck,

Download Dell Diags from the Support at the top of this page and drivers and downloads. Once you create the Diags CD press F12 and boot to cd. Diags will load and then you can run a test on the hdd if it recognizes it. If it does not recognize it see what error it posts and present it here.

Ok, I apologize for delay it's not easy for me to get online these days. So the error code 1000-0141 which I looked up means " no drive detected " but two hard drives that both worked fine before the crash? It's got to be something then the drives, correct?
