Latitude D600 -touchpad not responding

I just received a new Latitude D600.  Fresh out of the box and the touchpad does not work.  Nor does the track stick.  I have checked the settings in Control Panel and they are not disabled in there.  I have connected a USB mouse and it works fine.  I've tried reinstalling the driver from the Dell Drivers and Utilities CD that came with the laptop.  I have also uninstalled the device and reinstalled it.  Nothing has worked.  Odd thing is that once the desktop loads after booting, and I try to use the touchpad, it will 'jerk' and then stop responding.

Please advise as this laptop needs to be rolled out into a loaner 'pool' for our company ASAP.

Thanks!

ajhughson,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try using the Windows Update utility to obtain the drivers that you need. The latest version of the touch-pad driver is available from the Downloads tab (above).

I did this.  I also downloaded the drivers from the Dell website.  Neither worked.  What did eventually work was to go into the BIOS and reset system defaults.  Not sure why, but that seemed to work.  I typically always do any and all updates prior to looking for help elsewhere (learned from previous experience to rule out the simple stuff first).  Thanks for the suggestion.  Problem is resolved now.
