Latitude D610 screen problems

Hello, i'd be very greatful if anybody could help me figure out what's wrong with my laptop. I don't use it that often, don't leave it in intense heat or cold, haven't added any new programs to it and haven't dropped it.

Despite this, t here is a horizontal black strip going all the way across the centre of my screen, and directly above and below the strip are thin white lines. It is exactly in the middle and is a third of the screens height high. Below (not behind) the black strip the screen lightens , then flicks  back to its usual colour then begins to lighten again, and above the black strip the screen is perfectly normal.

When i restarted the computer last night after beginnning to charge it, the black strip disappeared and instead the entire bottom two-thirds of the screen lightened to a different shade of blue than the normal screen and none of the desktop icons were showing except for in the top half. The icons that were in the normal section of the screen and the part where it was a different shade of blue left vertical lines going down the screen in a different still shade of blue.

The screen also flickered every so often last night, even before i restarted it.

However when i turned it on again today the problem was just the black strip along the middle again, and the screen lightening at the bottom. I've left it on for a while and now the desktop above and below the black strip seem as if they should be connected ie. one of the icons begins at the bottom of the top third of the screen and finish at the top of the bottom third of the screen. The start bar cannot be seen and i believe it is below where the screen ends.

The computer does work under the black strip, eg i can log on even though i can't see the log on icon by clicking the mouse where i think it is. I can also use the start menu, although the pointer freezes or cannot be seen in the bottom two-thirds of the screen.

I had this problem when i last used my computer (couple of weeks ago) but at that point the strip disappeared after i left the computer alone for a while then restarted it. This time however, that method doesn't seem to be working.

I tried using dell diagnostics but the black strip rendered me unable to see what i was doing.

Once again i'd be extremely grateful for any help anybody could give me.

If it is still under warranty, contact Dell. Sounds like the LCD is defective. You could try to reinstall the video driver to see if that might fix the issue.

Yep, this definitely sounds like a hardware issue, so call Dell and don't waste time trying to fix if via software/driver updates.
