Latitude D610 - Speaker Problems
I'm at college right now and I have with me a Dell Latitude D610 Laptop. My parents sent me a set of Boston Sound System speakers (a few years old) that I've tried to connect through the headphone port. The speakers are in great condition and work on my parent's Dell XPS Desktop at home. When I connect them, I hear no sound from the speakers or the computer's speakers. Can someone help me?
For further information, my laptop was purchased around August '05. Someone also mentioned I may need a sound card. I'm not too computer illiterate, but I don't want to mess with stuff I don't know.
Thank you for your help!

If so, what I would do is to check in the Volume Control that not only "volume" is set high enough, but also that "wave" set set high enough.

You are correct though, I do hear sound from the built-in speakers, but not the external ones when I connect them.

go to your control panel. click on sounds and audio devices. choose Advanced tab under Device Volume. Click on Options tab from here then choose properties. Then make sure that the headphones volume control has a checkmark next to it for playback and hit "OK." This will open up the headphone control. mine was muted when i got the laptop. unmute it and your external 12.1 surround sound speakers should work great. :robotvery-happy:
good luck!
