Latitude D820 Keyboard mapping error

I have a Dell Latitude D 820 that was provided to me by my employer.  The problem I am having began about one week ago.

Here is a synopsys:  When I depress the right arrow key, I get one of two results, neither one is the cursor moving to the right.  Either "/n" will be inserted into my document and the computer ALT-TABs to the previos document; or, "/b" is inserted into my document and the computer ALT-TABs to the previous document.  On a few occasions, while using MS Word 2003, the "/n" or "/b" was insterted into the document and one of the menus was pulled down.

I have not found any custom keyboard mapping assignments anywhere on the computer.  Additionally, as I'm usually a mac user; I am not overly familiar with the diagnostic programs and utilities.

The only change made to the copmuter, which occured about the same time as the kleyboard mismap, was that I installed a HP printer.  The printer is a HP Color Laserjet 2600n.

I attempted adding a USB keyboard.  The external keyboard works normally, but the laptop's keyboard continues to malfunction.  This also malfunctions in Notepad.

Have you tried to reinstall the driver for the laptop keyboard.  It could be sharing memory allocations with another device (such as the HP Printer) and causes weird interpretations.

You could try uninstalling the keyboard via the Device Manager and then restart the computer.  This should recognize the hardware and install the driver.

You could also download driver information through DELL:

I just uninstalled the keyboard driver and reinstalled it.  Problem solved.  I do not know why I did not think of this simple solution.   Thank you.
