Latitude e6220 screen not displaying
My e6220 was overheating, like 55c at idle and 75c at poker/photoshop and 80c in video games. Obviously something wasn't right. The laptop was working perfectly other than that. But I bought the laptop used so I figured it hadn't been cleaned from dust and could use a thermal paste change. And calling myself rather tech-savvy (more on the software side, tho) I'd figure I'd just clean the laptop myself.
So I got the whole thing open, cleaned the heatsink (much to my surprise it wasn't really clogged up, minor dust) and applied new thermal paste. Granted I kind of rushed this, so I might've touched wrong things. So I put the whole thing back together, the computer boots fine I can hear it enter home screen with windows music. But the display only displays black (it's working, showing light, but nothing on it other than dark screen).
So my speculation is that I had to misplace something because I essentially took the whole thing open to get to the heatsink.
My theory:
1) by moving heatsink I messed the gpu kinda which why my screen doesnt display pic
2) screen cable badly connected
so I have 2 questions for the community:
1) Where/which is the screen cable & contact?? image if possible
2) What to do next?
Thanks in advance! Waiting for any help I can get, really need the laptop for work.

Hi,
First, does it display the Dell splash screen when powering up or you never see anything? Second, attach an external monitor to that system and see if the video is visible there. That will tell you whether it is an issue with the GPU (if there is no video at all, either splash screen or on the external monitor), or if it's an LCD issue (ie video displays on the external monitor).
Here is a link to the support pages for the E6220. The owner's manual shows how to work on that system, and please check out the section on the LCD screens. it will show you where the connectors are for the video display. You may want to go in and check that connection to make sure that it didn't come loose while you were working on the system.
Please come back and let us know if you're able to resolve the problem, and if so, how. That way others can share in what you learn.
Thanks,
Todd
