Latitude e6510 CPU replacement

Hello community. I am wondering if I can replace the i3 processor of my Latitude e6510 for an i5 or even an i7 Quad.  Are there any issues with clock speeds?  Any issues with software licenses that may be tied to the CPU serial? Thanks!?

Hello everyone. I posted this question 2 weeks ago and no answer :(.  In the meantime I did try a i7 820QM and it didn't work. I am not sure if it was a defective unit, just returned for replacement, or a compatibility issue.  I have done some reading on the extensive subject of Intel processors and found that I have a first generation (or previous generation) processor, codename Arrandale. My question is will the i7 820QM codename Clarksfield supposedly the same generation, be compatible? If not, which one would be the highest performance CPU that this machine supports?  i7-620M? Or do I have to do with an i5?  Hope to get answers this time!  Best regards to all.

Bear in mind the first-generation  i7 quad mobiles have NO video chip (GPU) aboard - these will work only on mainboards that have discrete video aboard.

The other issue will be power -- an i7 will need a minimum of a 120W PSU - a 90W or lower PS won't work.

Other than that you likely stand a good chance of having an i7 CPU work.
