This is a decision I think you can make! First establish your budget. Next look at features you want like screen size, hard drive size, webcam etc. Fit the computer you like into your budget.
At this time till Dell starts having some quality control in their laptops I would eliminate a Dell. Too many problems that have not been taken care of. You get a new computer with problems They know about this but don't do anything to correct the problems.
Can you document this claim with statistics, or is this just a user anecdote? Notebooks all fail at the same rate - not surprising since 80% of them are made by just two contractors, and the other 20% come from just five or six other contractors.
If anything, I'd say Dell is about mid-range for early life failure - HP/Compaq and Apple are worse, at least from what I've been seeing of late (admittedly anecdotal, but they're the ones I've seen fail under warranty of late).

Thanks for responding, so far all the screen sizes I see are 15.6" I was hoping for something a little less, like 14" or a little above?:emotion-2:

Don't know how you are shopping but there are plenty of 14" in all brands. Nothing really between 14" and 15" size screens.

I didn't want to pick particular brands but I will.
I would not get a Dell or HP at this time. They both have been plagued with quality control issuses and customer support to fix problems.
It is true any brand can fail and given the volume of laptops they make and sell it probably is a small percentage.
Right now I would go with Lenovo or Acer brands.
