Good luck finidng a replacement. These things are rare.
I couldn't even get an inverter from the LCD manufacturer. It is, if it helps, a KDS PWB186 Inverter.
There is a guy in the UK who repairs inverters. I've had no experince with him and his emails are awfully hard to read (he's a terrible speller) but he's at least responsive and farly cheap. www.notebook-repair.net
The inverter was the last straw for me - I've had numerous other problems with my SS250 and am just getting a new laptop.
Does it bother anyone else that our units that are less than 2 years old, that there are no parts available? Is this fraud on Dells part?
I have been trying to get a part from Dell for over a year now.
The 200N and 250Ns are re-branded Acer Travel Mates. I tried a TM inverter... it fixes my backlight, but there is some sort of configuration on the inverter. When the original inverter is in place, I get the correct resolution but no backlight. When I put the TM inverter in, I get the backlight back, but the resolution is all messed up.
Lucky for me, I work at an engineering firm and we are going to try to modify the inverter to make it work. I think there is a serial e-prom on the inverter and I am going to exchange it.
Regardless, this does not negate the issues with Dell. If you feel like I do, correspond with ZD-Net editorial staff. I did not have the time to work out the details, but they were willing to publish a complaint on my behalf.
