Can you explain to me more about the backlight? because the only way to bring it back to normal is when I reset the flex cable connected to the video card but after some seconds goes dimm again!!! Thanks.

I'm currently experiencing this problem -  however..  we think we've got it nailed.   and man has it ever cost Dell a lot of money so far.

first - my processor fan went and needed replacing.. no problem, the service tech came out, disassembled my whole inspiron, and replaced the fan.   but.. he didn't plug everything back in well or something.. my palm rest (thus my speakers and touch pad) weren't working.. and my screen was dim. - he placed another call

second:  - the next dell guy came back.. replaced my lcd - and reseated my video card and my palm rest connectors..  brilliant!  it all worked.. untill 2 weeks later when I was in Canada

third: - in canada - lcd goes dim - I call dell canada - they send a guy out the next day who replaces the LCD AGAIN..  - but the screen still dosn't work .. so he places an order for a new video card

fourth:  new video card arrives, he plugs it in.. but it's a 32mb and my old one was a 64 - it works but looks like kark..  he plugs my old card back in to find out what kind it is.. and MAGIC - my screen is working !  yay!   but he still wants to replace my video card because he thinks it's dodgy

fifth: he comes with the right video card the next day - plugs it in.. it causes my right media bay to stop working -  but it looks good.   .He says that the video card must be faulty so he replaces my old video card

sixth: he comes the next day with ANOTHER new video card -  he plugs it in and it dosn't work AT ALL - lines all over the screen crazy..  he plugs the old video card back in -  The screen is still working for now  so he tells me to call dell in the UK if it starts acting up again.

seventh - 1 day back and the screen goes dim again.. but I discover that by pressing on the lower right keyboard screw area on the bottom, I can make it come back on again..   -   I do this for a day and call dell again.

eighth - the problem is getting worse - I now have to take the keyboard off and loosen and then tighten the bottom right screw connecting my video card to the mother board in order for my screen to work for an indeterminate period of time.

solution??  Dell is sending somebody round to pick up my computer -  turns out my video card is integrated into the mother board.. they can't replace that without also replacing the mother board - very possibly why the replacements in canada didn't work. They also think it might be a problem with the plastic casing.  At any rate..   the puter goes to the hospital for a week - they replace the motherboard, the video card, and god knows what else - I get it back and... well..

we'll just see..

All I can say is THANK the gods that I purchased the 3 year next day onsite service deal..

good luck with your screen .. may it not be a saga like mine has been
