lcd replacement

Question

Hi folks I need your advise. Last week a friend of mine split on my laptop inspiron 6000 a glass of beer. The pc is still working but in the middle of my screen there is a large black stripe, so basically I can't see the middle of my desktop. I really don't know what I can do, my warranty is expired and I don't know if I can replace the lcd ...have you any suggestion? any idea how much a new lcd cost? thanks for you help

First attach an external monitor - is that display OK? A new panel will run in the $300-500US range.
