LCD Screen Problems
I sent my laptop to get fixed because suddenly the hinges were loose and the entire display would stop working and look like the computer froze or it would black out with black stripes or white out. It didn't really freeze, because if I pushed on the LCD screen or wiggled it back and forth it would start working.
So when I sent it, they replaced the hinges and gave me a whole new case. It is STILL doing it. I paid however much money and it still won't work right. I connected it to my TV to watch a DVD and it wasn't happening but that doesn't mean much because sometimes it doesn't happen at all.
I don't know what to do and can't be without the computer for the 2 weeks it takes to fix when you send it in. I'm a grad student and have a million things due.
Is the video card messed up? I could replace it if instructed on how. I downloaded all the new drivers and it still happens.
DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!! Does anyone have any suggestions?????

Can you get a monitor and attach it to the video out?
if that's working ok, you can at least get your work done.

I am having the same problem with my computer (Inspiron 1501) as well. Everytime I go to watch a movie or use the cd/dvd drive at all clack and green stripes show up on my screen and I have to restart. This has been happening ever since I got my laptop in September and have also installed all the driver updates, and tells me that there is something wrong with my video card. I am also a student and cannot be without my computer, so if anyone could help me out as well that would be much appreciated.

While the screen was acting up, I attached my computer to another screen and it worked perfectly fine. So, it is not a connection or the video card, it is the actual LCD. When I went back to the laptop screen it was still messed up. So whenever I pushed the screen in this one spot, it went back to normal. So.....
I took a small peice of paper and folded it. Put the paper in a space at the top of the screen so it is constantly pushing it in and VOILA, it is working totally normal. Absolutely NO problems.
I think they are cheap LCD's or there is just not a very long life for them. I don't know, but this works....for now....

I'm having same issue with a Inspiron 630m
I suspect it has had a slight knock to one corner though there is no visible marking or damage. The cardboard worked at first but am finding I need quite a lot of bits and its not a very stable solution - I seem to need to keep tweaking the bits of cardboard.
I have the symptoms, and I have a bodged cure of sorts, but what is the actual fault? Is it connections within the LCD that need to be held in place by presure around its casing, and if so was that the job of the metal frame in the laptops lit - perhaps that needs bending in a little more.
It seems the screen needs pressure to hold its metal surround tight - I need to know how and why though so I can refine the fix (and to satisfy my curiousity)
Any ideas welcome.
thanks
David
