Low memory message !

Question

Hi,   I have an XPS M1710 running windows vista ultimate 32bit , I just added more memory and I still get this message when I try to install programs even small ones.  When I went into my system information under memory it say -due to the amount of memory assigned for system use, Memory available is less than memory assigned.   To be honest I do not know where to begin with this one. I am not computer savvy but I would appreciate if someone could solve this problem on a novice level.   I hope I gave enough information !
