AutoCAD 2009 supports Microsoft® Windows Vista® Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, Business, and Enterprise. In addition, AutoCAD 2009 takes advantage of some new Vista capabilities, specifically Windows Vista thumbnail previews for DWG and DWF files in Windows Explorer, display of AutoCAD properties in the detail tab of Windows Explorer, and ability to use the Windows Vista search tools using text strings found in drawing properties, text, MTEXT, and so forth, in the DWG file.
So, you are good on those.
Were you installing the 32bit or 64bit AutoCAD2009?
Other than the Blue Screen and the report you provided on "corrupted segments", were there any other error messages?
I always disable my active anti-virus program when installing any program. At one time, Symantec Norton named it "Auto-Protect" and it was active and present in the Tray. Auto-Protect would check and test just about everything that moved! That is what I refer to when saying disable an active anti-virus program. It has been a few years since I've used Norton...I use AVG.
You can contact AutoDesk Support and inquire of that possibility in your situation.
There is a 64bit AutoCAD but as you reported, and you did not believe it was available to you. Most likely the 64bit installation would notify you that it is not possible to install that version.
You can also ask AutoDesk support of what step to take next. Reinstall, etc.
I am 99% sure it was the 32-bit version of Autocad 2009 - I don't think there was even a 64-bit version available from the Autodesk student website that I downloaded the program from.
I was not running any applications at the time besides whatever normally runs in the background on my machine, including Symantec Antivirus. Could the Antivirus running normally have caused issues with installation?

From the Autodesk web site...

Such as: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=9579121&linkID=9240617
Some Hot Issues from AutoDesk are available: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/index?siteID=123112&id=2714854&linkID=9240617
What Virus Protection do you have on the m1330? Was the Virus Protection disabled during the installation of AutoCAD2009?
Were there any other programs running during AutoCAD2009 installation which may have caused the installation to fail.
You contacted Dell and you may also want to contact AutoDesk Support:

You may wish to run the Hard Drive Diagnostic.
