M1530 external modem problem

I recently purchased a Dell XPS M1530 and am very happy with it. However, where I am staying currently I have no wireless connection and am looking to purchase an external modem (at the time I bought the computer I didn't think I'd need one as I had wireless access then). Are there only certain kinds that are compatible? I'm hoping to get one secondhand from ebay or somewhere. There's one in particular that is a Dell brand, the model is RD02-D400. Would this work or do I need something else? And would the driver be available online?

I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

You don't have to worry about drivers I think. Just plug the thing in and it will work. That's what I did. I guess you need to set up dialup accounts after that. I have never used the modem to access Internet, just use it for faxing.

Okay, great. I didn't buy one because at the time I didn't need it.

However, I have a second question: what driver do I need to download and where can I get it? Is it on the dell website/where?

Yes, you can use the RD02-D400 modem of Conexant with your M1530. This is the same modem which comes with the model by default as a standard accessory. Why didn't you get yours when you bought the laptop ?

Why not just buy a cheap wireless router with built-in modem instead?
A wireless router would offer you a level of security as well (WPA).
