M170 display stretched

Question

i picked up this Xps M170 laptop it has windows media center and windows 7 dual booting all current  video drivers  cause the screen to be overstretched  ie i only see half the screen horziontal and it stretches that native res is 1440x900 and that is what its set to  changeing it lower dosnt fix it  it does this with both operating systems  useing older drivers or the dell supplied drivers  fixxes the stretch but  all text is then pixelized and the screen looks 'interlaced'

ive been playing with it for a week now and just cant seem to adjust it back to shape useing any tools or other programs is the screen bad? or video card bad?
