Hi Mike,

Please run diagnostics to confirm hardware functionality. Here are the steps:

  • Restart the system and immediately start tapping the 'F12' key to enter the 'Boot Menu'.
  • Use the 'Down Arrow' key to highlight the 'Diagnostics' or 'Boot to Utility Partition' option. Press the 'Enter' key.
  • When the Dell Diagnostics main menu appears, select the test you want to run, perform 'Extended Test'. Please note the exact error message/code, if any appears on the screen.

Follow the steps from the link http://dell.to/16Mhg0E to troubleshoot Dell Laptop is overheating or is having a heat issue. Check the vents on the computer to see if they are covered with dust and not allowing heat and air to pass through. Use Compressed Air to blow the dust out of the vents.

Also, update the BIOS of the system from the link http://dell.to/ZUgqLm. Follow the prompts on screen to update the BIOS and restart your computer.

Note: Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.

Hope this helps. Please reply with the findings.
