Hi Sudeeplfc,

You may try the following steps.

Run the LCD BIST. To run the LCD BIST (Built in Self-test):

  • Power off the computer
  • Press and hold the D key on the keyboard while pressing the power button, then release both at the same time
  • This will initiate A grey screen, then Red, then Blue, then Green, then White
  • Please check if you experience the same problem

I would suggest you to check in BIOS is the issue persists:

  • Power off the computer
  • Restart the computer, tap F2 key 4-5 times on the Dell logo
  • Once you are on the BIOS screen, please wait on the BIOS screen for few minutes (15-30 minutes approx)
  • Check if you experience the same problem

I would suggest you to update the video driver from the link http://dell.to/QjjZDA , type the service tag of the computer and choose the operating system.

Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi Sudeeplfc,

Thank you for the response. I would suggest you to check the screen in BIOS  and update the video drivers as suggested in my previous post.

Alternatively, run the diagnostics to check the hardware functionality.

To run ‘Dell Diagnostics’

  • Power off the computer
  • Restart the computer, press F12 on the Dell logo
  • Select ‘Diagnostics’ from the boot menu
  • Please refer to the link if any error code shows up http://dell.to/OUGnqT

If the issue persists on the BIOS screen, it might be an issue with the LCD and may require replacement.

Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi Sudeeplfc,

Did you check the screen in BIOS for few minutes?
Did the screen behave the same way when running diagnostics?

I would suggest you to check the screen for some more time in BIOS, check if the screen behaves the same way. You may try to connect an external monitor and check if the issue persists. Please ensure that all the drivers are updated for your computer. Here is the link http://dell.to/SwNu7S

If the screen behaves the same way in BIOS, it might be an issue with the LCD and may require replacement.

Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi Sudeeplfc,

Please check if the charging port on the laptop is loose. Connect an alternate AC Adapter to see if that works fine with the system. Alternatively, try the steps mentioned below:

*Check the AC Adapter in BIOS; check the ‘AC Adapter type’ status if it shows ‘Unknown/  Not Detected / 65W / 90W / 130W'.
*If you get the status as 'Unknown / Not Detected' then reset BIOS to defaults:

  • Restart the computer, tap 'F2' key on Dell logo 4-5 times
  • This will take you to the main screen of BIOS
  • Press ‘F9’ key once, highlight ‘Yes’, press ‘Enter’
  • Press ‘F10’ key once, highlight ‘Yes’, press ‘Enter’

Also, check the Battery Health Meter:

  • Right click on the battery icon on the taskbar
  • Choose ‘Dell Health Meter’
  • Click on ‘Battery Health’ tab
  • Examine the information shown in the window

Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi Sudeeplfc,

Thank you for the response. Did you check the AC Adapter status in BIOS? Did you check the Battery Health Meter? If yes, please post the results.

Since the issue still persists, then it is advisable to perform PC restore, which means taking the computer back to factory defaults to eradicate any software issues. Please refer to the link http://dell.to/VpM12n
Note: We would advise you to take a complete backup of your data (pictures, music, videos, and documents) as this step leads to complete data loss. Please disconnect any external peripherals as well.

Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi Sudeeplfc,

Are you referring to the AC Adapter type as 'Unknown' in BIOS?

If yes, then perform BIOS defaults and check with an alternate AC Adapter. Here are the steps to perform BIOS defaults:

  • Restart the computer, tap 'F2' key on Dell logo 4-5 times
  • This will take you to the main screen of BIOS
  • Press ‘F9’ key once, highlight ‘Yes’, press ‘Enter’
  • Press ‘F10’ key once, highlight ‘Yes’, press ‘Enter’

Did you restore your computer to factory defaults?

If not, it is advisable to perform PC restore, which means taking the computer back to factory defaults to eradicate any software issues.
Note: We would advise you to take a complete backup of your data (pictures, music, videos, and documents) as this step leads to complete data loss. Please disconnect any external peripherals as well.

To perform PC restore:

  • Restart PC, press 3-4 times when the Dell logo appears.
  • Advanced Boot Options menu appears, ‘Repair your Computer' is highlighted, press Enter. (Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice)
  • Windows is loading files screen appears. Wait for it to load.
  • System Recovery Options prompt appears. Specify the language and keyboard input that you want, and then click ‘Next’.
  • Log in as a user who has administrative credentials; select the username from the drop-down list, type the password and click OK.
  • Choose a Recovery Tool Window appears, select Dell Data Safe Restore and Emergency Backup.
  • The Welcome screen will show 2 options; Restore computer and preserve my new or changed files and Select other System Backup and more options. Select the second option (Select other System Backup and more options) and click Next.
  • The next window shows these options; Backup Files and folders and Restore my computer. Select ‘Restore my computer’.
  • Select the Factory Image and click ‘Next’.
  • The next window shows 2 options; 'Preserve new or changed files before restoring to selected System Backup' and 'Restore without preserving new or changed files'. Select the second option (Restore without preserving new or changed files) and click Next.
  • A prompt appears stating that your computer is about to be restored all data currently on your computer will be deleted and replaced with your selected Full System Backup. If an Emergency File & Folder Backup was created, it will still be saved at the location you selected. Click 'Yes, continue' and click Next.
  • PC restore will initiate. Once done, click Restart.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to create a user account
