Memory read write error

When I started up my new Inspiron laptop lastnight for the first time,  it booted without errors.  It then 'blue screened' and has been giving memory errors since.

This message appears on boot-up:

Error message :Memory write/read failure at IFED4D44, read ED02EF02 expecting ED02ED02 memory address line failure at 100005C4 read 00EF02EF expecting 00EF00EF. Decreasing available memory. Amount sys memory changed. Press F1 to continue F2 for setup

F1 allows the PC to boot, system memory shows up as 256MB instead of the 512MB that is installed.

When I reboot the system, I get this boot message 'Amount of system memory changed'.  I can then choose F1 for continue (which just crashes the PC) or F2 for setup.  When it enters setup memory shows up as 512MB, setup runs very slow and  PC crashes (I cannot boot to windows).

When I reboot again after this crash, I once again receive the memory write/read error above. I press F1 to continue, it starts windows and my system memory shows up as 256MB.

Please Help!!

One of the DIMMs is bad. Try reseating it and running the Dell diagnostics (boot, press F12 before Windows loads).

If under warranty, report the resulting error to Dell and they will ship you a replacement DIMM. If out of warranty, www.crucial.com is your best bet for RAM.
