You could try running MSCONFIG and disable the anti spyware program from running but if you have NO desktop and start button I'm not sure how you could open the RUN window or start  a CMD.exe windows.

Can you get to control panel to use Add/Remove programs??

You could also try a "Repair Install" of XP. That might fix the current problem so you couls at least boot to the desktop.

OK hit the "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" key combo to bring up Task Manager, on the "Applications" tab select "New Task" type in msconfig.exe  . If it starts go to the start up tab and uncheck the Anti Spyware program so it doesn't start at boot. You will get a warning about changiing the configuration just select OK to keep the changes you have made and then reboot.

Just how do you access programs through the Recycling Bin. There shouldn't be any programs in there. It really sounds like your notebook was heavily infected with something. Might be time to wipe the drive and reinstall.

I doubt that the problem is the antispyware. It's that running the antispyware removed something, probably something crucial that responded to the Remote Monitoring.  Does anyone know what that is? and if there is some way for me to put it back?  In the 2 minute window I have to use the computer I can access programs through the Recycle bin, but response is very slow so that I may not be able to remove programs.  Does someone think that will solve the problem?

Since you do not get the Start button. Does your system respond to the Windows Key (the key on your keyboard with the windows logo)? Does you mouse work?

OK you had no problems then you installed a BETA antispyware program and now you have problems (That would be a problem AFTER you installed the beta program) and you think it's NOT THE BETA PROGRAM.

OK I see.

Think of the antispyware as a hammer.  If I hit my computer with a hammer, removing the hammer would not help the computer.  As far as I can tell, the damage is already done.  The question is how to repair it.  Initially, I would like to figure out to get the computer to respond to remote monitoring.

I think I pointed out how to try and fix this problem in my first reply.

Total shot in the dark and apologies if it's off the mark, but that was the exact symptom of the blaster worm, back when it was rife.  RPC shutdown in 60 seconds.  Might be worth reading up on how to check your system for the worm and get rid of it, just on the offchance that might be your problem?  Sorry if that's a stupid suggestion.  Also (again with apologies if this is stupid) do you have System Restore enabled, and could you try going back to a Restore point previous to installing the software?
