Minor widescreen display issues

Hey forum-

I have the inspiron 8600 with NVIDIA GeForce FX Go 5200 card (most current driver and video BIOS from Dell download site - strangely the NVIDIA site seems to have an earlier version for download).

When the computer monitor wakes up, or when it boots up/shuts down, a wide white bar flashes briefly on the right side of the screen.  The width of the bar seems to correspond to the extra width of the wide screen display.  Additionally, the display in that same area is not as good - some fine pink vertical bands running through some of the task tray icons on the bottom right and through the "close window" box on the top right of whatever program I happen to be using.  Goofy Netscape icon top right if I'm using NS.  Stuff like that.

Man - this bugs me.  Can NOT think of what it might be or relate it to any event. 

Any ideas?
