Missing Optiarc AD-7717H SATA DVD RW Drivers

I have an XPS 15 with a Optiarc AD-7717H SATA DVD RW Drive. The drivers for this device are neither on the Resource CD nor on the Dell Website. Sony-Optiarc asks me to contact the manufacturer of the system for the drivers.

So I tried emailing Dell Tech Support India, and the website asked me for my Service Tag Number. On entering it, it threw an error saying that my system is out of warranty. I purchased this system 2 months back.

One part of your website provides me all my warranty information and contracts correctly, while on the other side, when I ask for support it tells me that I am out of warranty.

What can I do to get some support ?

Thank you Bacillus. I understand that Win 7 supports this drive and hence third party drivers are un necessary. I tested this with the disk issued by Dell with my laptop containing Win 7 Home Premium.

What I am trying to do is  reinstall my OS. My laptop came with Win 7 Home Premium and I already have my Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit edition. Hence I wanted to install the Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit on my system. However when I go through the screens, the screen after "Install Now" gives me an error saying that "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing"

I have already been through forums and google search results trying to find a solution to this, but I can't. My last option is to get the drivers for the Optiarc Drive and load the drivers manually.

That optical drive uses drivers that come with windows so third party drivers are unnecessary.

Ok, I see!

Is your dvd clean and scratch free and I would also run a diagnostic on the ram.

Finally, are you booting from the win 7 ultimate dvd or are you trying to do this from inside of windows? For a fresh install I would boot from the dvd, delete all partitions, format and install windows.

Hi Neemliu,

Usually Win 7 picks up the DVD Drive by itself. My problem got resolved when I burnt my Win 7 Ultimate disk once again from the image I had downloaded. Apparently something went wrong with the Image burnt on the first disk.

If you need the specs on this drive I found a link (It was not there when I was looking all over the internet for it)

ags.advantech.com/.../96SDVR-8X-ST-SN-B5_Datasheet.pdf

And the drivers are apparently here.

drivers.awdit.com/.../optiarc-dvd-rw-ad-7717h

I did not download to test the links yet. However do check the HW ID's before you do anything. I would suggest that if its just a simple Windows Installation which is not happening because the DVD Drive is not being recognized. Just try burning the image on another PC or download the image once again and burn it.

If you update the firmware incorrectly, you would risk making the drive non functional and also voiding the warranty on the drive. :(.

Cheers

Chris.
