Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset - driver will not initialize (Code 37)

I have recently acquired a Dell Inspiron 1200.
It came with Windows XP Home - however, I installed the Windows XP Professional SP1.
I have updated all the drivers per Microsoft and Dell web sites, however I am unable to initialize the driver the Intel 915GM/GMS,910GML driver..

I have uninstalled and resintalled the drivers, yet I will still not initialize.

I get the following error:

Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Don't be upset but I have to ask, did you first install the Intel mobile chipset driver as well as the Dell Notebook System Software?

Why should I be mad for someone asking me a question that could potentially help me.

With regards to the question, I did install the Dell Notebook System Software and then the driver.
But to no avail.

I got so desperate i installed XP SP2 - big mistake - after that, my computer would just do core dump after core dump.  *The infamous blue screen of death*  I would start, could go on for about 5 min, sometimes 10-15min - sometimes just after the desktop would come up, it would core dump.  It was sporadic...i did noticed that if i would let the notebook load up completely, it would last longer without core dumping.

I tried to uninstall XP SP2 - and gues what, it core dump once during uninstall. I rebooted, was able to kick off the uninstall again...and was able to go further than before, however in the middle of copying files, it core dump, now, it just goes into an infinite reboot - never goes past the Windows logon screen.

Either way, I will use a bootable XP disk to repair the current system.

Did you have anything in mind from your question? Do you think I have to install the System Software after the driver install?

Just curious.
Thanks!

By the way, I have also tried all the different startup options, but to no avail.

I will attempt the XP bootable disk which I have and see if I can boot up from there and repair the software. Otherwise, I have no other option except to reformat the drive and do the install from scratch.

Do you have any ideas on why the Display Adapter driver would not initialize?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Seeing that you are now having so many problems I would suggest you reinstall your operating system. If you want to use sp2 then suggest that you slipstream it to your XP CD then do your reinstall. Use the link below to simplify slipstreaming XP.

After installing your operating system you should install your drivers in the following order: Intel chipset driver, Dell Notebook System software, video drivers, audio drivers, touchpad drivers. You can then install your modem, LAN and wireless card drivers (if the hardware is present on your motherboard) in any order you please.

I have installed the the complete set of Windows XP SP1 patches and have installed all the drivers in the order explained above.

However, I am still getting the problem as before in addition to 2 new ones, which I believe were also present before:

1) Intel Chipset device cannot  initialize the driver.

2) I am also noticing that I am unable to play any DVDs on my machine, even after installing the necessary codecs (Intervideo WinDVD6)

3) In addition, the standby button in the shutdown options is not available - it has been greyed out.

I have a feeling that all are related to the chipset not been able to initialize the driver.
I have used the exact same copy of windows XP SP1 i used for my desktop which is working wonderfully.

Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
-Tempena
