Motherboard Problems?
Hi All, new to this forum.
My girlfriends Inspiron 15R N5110 has an unknown problem. Backstory: It was purchased new about 2 years ago and has had slight problems with the track pad and an awful network connection (both wireless and ethernet).
Recent: It came down with a pretty bad browser hijacker, so I re-imaged it about a week ago. The network connection was still bad so I went to take a look at it and when I picked it up the screen turned black and the computer sounded like it snapped off (turned off abrupt enough to make an audible noise). The computer gave no indication of power (power cycling, lights, sounds, nothing) with either the battery or charger alone and together. I left it alone for a couple of days and thinking the motherboard was fried I started planning on getting another laptop. Today for the heck of it I took off the battery and plugged it in and it turned on, I booted it into safe mode and logged on, then it did the same thing and turned off abruptly and I havent been able to get it going again.
Thoughts on what the problem may be?

Hi moener,
This can be a hardware/software issue. To isolate the issue follow below mentioned steps:
If the computer power on, check if the computer shuts down in BIOS. Restart the computer and tap F2 on Dell logo.
Also, run diagnostics on the computer. Restart the computer by holding the FN and Power button simultaneously. Check if the diagnostics runs on the computer.
Awaiting your response!

Hi and thank you for the speedy response. I ran through the steps twice and had done something of this fashion previously as well but with no response. What kind of software problem would cause the computer to show no signs of power to the computer?

Hi moener,
May I know the status of diagnostics?
Check if the diagnostics runs. Restart the computer by holding the FN and Power button simultaneously. Let the test finish.
Also, if the computer powers on, check if the computer shuts down in BIOS. Restart the computer and tap F2 on Dell logo.
Awaiting your response!

Hi, I couldn't run a diagnostics test because the computer won't boot up. It shows no signs that it has any power coming to it at all, it isn't responsive to anything I do.
