Try disableing your pointer stick. If it's a new laptop you should be under warrenty for it. You can disable the pointing stick by going to control panel, and mouse options. Make sure you do not have an external plugged in while you are doing this though. Also, apply pressure to the right side of the touchpad, not the actual touchpad, but right outside of it on the plastics, if that moves it give us a call.

Its most likely a hardware fault, although later bios versions may reduce the problem a bit.
Depending on the model of laptop, it could be either the touchpad or touchstick, which would require either a palmrest or kb replacement. You may be able to trace the source of the problem by disabling the touchpad/touchstick one at a time through the touchpad settings.
