mouse pointer disappears

I have a Latitude D800 that I just finished updating the video BIOS and driver on. When it rebooted, there was a 3/8 inch tall section of the screen where the mouse pointer disappears. The section of screen where the mouse pointer disappears is about a third the way up from the bottom and covers the width of the screen.

As previously stated, I had just installed the newest video drivers AND bios. I tried reinstalling the video drivers (olld and new) and also tried removing and reinstalling the mouse pointer drivers. None of these things worked.

The mouse pointer works fine even though you cant see it. This problem started yesterday (Sept 4 2003) though I have noticed today that it will not exhibit this problem all the time.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jonnypark

Seems to work great, sorry, I thought you were referring to an A04 Video BIOS update.
Thanks very much for the help pdenti and Bob!

I am still getting the 1/8 inch line in the middle of my screen even after installing this driver:  Video: nVidia GeForce4 4200 Go, Driver, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Multi Language, Inspiron 8600, v.6.14.10.4482, A04

I seem to be the only one here who is still getting this problem.  Maybe the reason why Dell hasn't officially released this driver for the D800 is because it doesn't always fix the problem.

Any ideas, Dell?

I have a D800, 1GB RAM, 1.7 GHz Pentium M, WUXGA, nVidia 4200 with 64 MB video

pdenti,  hey thanks.   The A04 BIOS fixed the problem!   I thought I had checked for a new BIOS but didn't see one.  I guess it just came out on 9/9.

It seems I may have spoken too soon, the problem is still occurring the same way(alternating between the middle and top of the screen without any apparent reason). I'm going to have to hose my Win2K install on this system soon, maybe with just the A04 driver being used from the beginning the problem will be remedied.

I don't see the multi-display features either, I'm assuming there's no way to roll back the video bios?

Actually... I spoke too soon.   The new BIOS seemed to work for a while....  Now I'm still getting that 1/8 inch missing cursor area in the middle of the screen again.   Maybe it was because it just came out of hibernation.   Who knows.

Seems this problem won't ever go away....

Exactly I installed:

- new D800 alps drivers

- last D800 geforce drivers

- A04 bios

- Inspiron 8600 geforce video drivers

The above sequence worked for me but i don't know if it depends on the above order or on something else.

pdenti, did you ever get the dualhead features running with the Inspiron drivers?

Well, I was on the forum about 2 weeks ago and couldn't find anyone else with the same problem.  Now, it's good to see that I'm not going crazy and others are having the problem too.  I've tried just about everything to fix the problem.  I so wish I didn't upgrade the BIOS.  When will I learn "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"?  My laptop worked fine until I updated the BIOS & video driver.

This is a very annoying problem!!  I hope Dell & Nvidia fix it soon because this is ridiculous.  Hopefully the more people who respond, maybe the better support by dell on this problem?

I have a Latitude D800 with the 4200 Go 64MB.

I have an Inspiron 8200 with the same problem, what video driver update will correct this problem if the 8600 driver will not work with it?
