Mouse pointer disappears

I just got a new Inspiron 15R. At random times and in completely different scenarios, the mouse pointer will simply disappear from the screen. Nothing will bring it back and no key combinations will work. My only option is a hard shutdown. I do not have a mouse connected. I only use the touchpad. What is the cause and solution? Gary

I've got somewhat the same problem on a new Inspiron 17, Windows7. After startup there is no pointer, sometimes. Mouse nor touchpad is working. Keyboard is not working. I only can make a hard shutdown.

Sometimes it works, perfect.
