My computer had a memory crash

I turn on the computer, and it goes directly to the black screen (with a flash of the Dell logo just for a second).  At the top of the black screen it says memory write/read failure at 000290B0 read EDO 2E902 expecting EDO 2EDO2, then resead memory.

I have tried taking out the memory, pulling out battery, unplugging everything, taking out the hard drive. NOTHING works.  I can not get it into safe mode or into the diagnostic center.

Any suggestions.  I NEED my laptop!

THANKS.

Thanks, I tried that and now I am afraid it is a motherboard issue, could that be?  I tried my memory in a friend's machine and it booted up just fine.. YIKES... I didnt want to pull her memory and try it in mine because I didn't want to mess that memory up.  Any other ideas?  Thanks

If your system uses more than one stick of memory try installing them one at a time in the A slot. Your system may boot with the good stick if you have one.

I can't get past this one screen.  I have tried using the F10 and F8 keys and I can't get into the bios, safe mode or into the diagnostic screen.  Are there any other ways to force my way there ?  :smileyindifferent:

Try going in to the BIOS and looking at the memory settings set them to default or auto, save and exit. If that does not help it may be a mothe board issue.

Sorry that is all I can think of. Good luck If there is a solution you will find it here when the right person reads your post. Sorry I could not be of more help.

You can pick up a refurbished 1721 on the Dell outlet. I paid $699. They can be found with IDE and SATA drives. They have 2 drive bays you could install your old drive in the second bay and access your files. Or pull the drive and put it in an external housing for about $20.00 from NEWEGG.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.  I may just have to do that.  I will definately look at the dell outlet page, didn't even know it existed.

Well, I got a little closer there.  I at least go the Dell logo screen to flash for a second and then it just went straight to the black screen with the error message.  Any other ideas?  I am really bummed as this is my computer I use when I teach and school starts on Tuesday again!
