It does appear Dell shipped this model with the i7-740QM, so the 720QM should work - IF your system as ATI/AMD or nVidia video.
The first generation Core i7 Quads have no onboard video - so the cpu WILL NOT WORK if your system has Intel integrated video only -- there is no GPU aboard the i7Q.
i have ati 5650m so i thought it should work and i have also seen that dell was selling version with i7 740qm, but my laptop won't start with i7 720qm and i don't know why

Unfortunately, you cannot fit an I7 processor on the motherboard of the Inspiron N5010.
