Network printing issues
Trying to set up a network printer, when I am setting up the TCP/IP port, I provide the IP address of the printer, then when I hit "next", it freezes the process and I get an error reporting message that tells me Windows Explorer has experienced an error and will be terminated.
I have tried dozens of times to set up this port, with the printer online, with it offline, with Windows Firewall turned on and with it off, with Norton Internet Security enabled and disabled, and with every combination of the above variables.
I can access the internet on the same network connection, so the connection and network drivers are good. I can print to the same printer using a parallel connection, so the print driver is good.
Any ideas???

The first thing is to make sure the printer is set to allow sharing. Properties>Share this Printer
Then follow these steps and try one of these methods that best suits your setup.
To open Printers and Faxes, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Printers and Faxes.
Method #1: Browse for a Printer
Click Browse for a printer, and then click Next.
In the Shared printers list, click the printer you want to connect to.
In the list, printers are indicated by an icon of a printer followed by its name. An icon of a computer indicates a computer that has at least one printer connected to it. To see the printer, double-click the computer icon.
When you click a printer icon, its name appears in the Printer box.
Click Next.
Follow the instructions on the screen to finish connecting to the printer.
Method #2 : Connect to this printer
Click Connect to this printer.
In the Name box, type the printer name using the following format:
\\computer_name\printer_name
Click Next.
Follow the instructions on the screen to finish connecting to the printer.
Method # 3: Connect to an Internet or intranet printer
Using a printer’s URL allows you to connect to a printer across the Internet, provided you have permission to use that printer. If you cannot connect to the printer using the general URL format below, please see your printer's documentation.
Click Connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or office network.
Type the URL to the printer using the following format:
http://printserver_name/Printers/share_name/.printer
Click Next.
Follow the instructions on the screen to finish connecting to the printer.
Regards.
