Just wandering if you were returning your 8600 because of a certain problem.

I thought Intel post-poned the Dothan release AGAIN...

Bascially, from your posts there, the only issue is that you dont like how a few keys on the keyboard feel? Why not get that part swapped out before you return the whole thing???

Well, yes.  But I figured I paid this much money anyway, and I'd probably pay the same or a little more for the newer ones when they come out.

Read the posts below, where I also posted some information on my i8600.

Thanks for the response. Ive been wanting to order a new laptop for over a month now [ where I work Dell has a  program set up on a no interest purchase] and was considering the 8600 after reading all the threads on the 5000 series overheating problems. Never thought there would be such a huge problem finding a laptop to purchase from the worlds #1 computer company.

The screen.... still not quite to my liking.  I don't really need the laptop now, but will need it more later this year.  So by then, I'm hoping the screens are brighter.    Who knows...

Yeah, if you want a Dell notebook, I'd wait. The 8600 is pretty poor in many respects.

Are you going to wait again for when Intel announces another proc or another laptop is said to be released?

I want the new Dothan, so I presume the minimum proc. speed no that will be 1.8. Is this correct? As I understood it from other threads, it seems the very first Dothan release will have the 1.8ghz w/ the new smaller micron processing.

What concerns me the most, and also what I seek perfection from, is the screen. So hopefully better screens are made by then. At this level, of course, I might be out for something that will probably not exist in the near future. From all that the market offers right now, you really can't have it all.. at least w/ the screens.

Thanks.

I'll keep out the lookout.

That is correct - and with the 2MB cache, it will leave the older Centrinos in the dust!

BTW: my 15" UXGA superfine screen IS perfect. It makes my 17" Viewsonic CRT look DULL.

Well, then maybe the new wide-screens are more tempermental.

I'm glad I returned the notebook, considering the rather significant upgrades to be released this year.

Also, do you know if the current WUXGA screens are superfine ?

Superfine doesn't really mean anything, it's just a label Toshiba applied to a certain line of wide-angle, fast response notebook screens. The wide aspect screens are pretty similar to the superfine screen, just a little slower response times, but not enough so that's it's noticeable in practice. The superfine is marginally brighter, too. Toshiba's CASV screen, however, is in a different ballpark to the superfine, it's really stunning, whereas the superfine is just very good.

Do ya'll have any idea when the new computers are coming out?  I don't know anything about them.  I was going to order a new laptop (8600) within the next week or two, but I want to find out if ya'll know when they are coming out.  Also, do you know price range?  ($3000+ or $2000+ or $1500+ or what?)

What is great about them?  (Like I said, I know nothing about them)

Thanks for your help!

I would say the Superfine is an Excellent screen! The CASV is an even more EXCELLENTER (new word) screen.

No firm release dates, prices or specs at the moment, it is mostly rumour (although we know that there has to be some in the works). If you wait, you could end up waiting a couple of months for all we know......
