newbie: dead pixel?
Hello, Sorry if this has already been addressed. What is dell's policy on dead pixels?
Got Inspiron 700m, has dead red pixel in middle of screen out of box. At first it didn't bother me much, cuz I didn't use it much, but now it's getting very annoying especially when reading text.

Please advise, Many thanks for any assistance.

DOH! When I searched Dell's site earlier I couldn't find a reference to dead pixels. :(
A google search turns up a few forums w/claims of 1 pixel replacements (e.g. techimo.com & neowin.net), then again someone posted a much higher requirement.
Whatever their dead pixel policy is, does anyone know if they replace w/new or refurbished?
-THX!

if it's red, it's stuck, not dead ;p and the logo might actually make it hard to get direct pressure on that part ... try a light press from the front, enough to blurr the surrounding colors -- use a cloth if you don't want prints. light pressure will usually work in these situations, at least for a while

No luck on the accu-pixel :( Guess I should just count my blessings that there's only one "stuck" pixel, since it could have been up to five.
In my book "stuck" is basically "dead" :p but your right, there is a subtle difference, guess that's why Dell refers to it as "fixed" in their 'quality standards.' Can you imagine trying to debate that 6 stuck pixels should qualify as dead, in order to get a replacement? LOL

Dell's auto-response provided following link w/Dell's policy (dated 4/8/02)http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?dn=1018431
They state the 5 pixel industry standard ejn63 referenced & if you have 6 or more, contact Dell. thx ejn63.
Wonder what the ratios are for 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 5+ dead pixels shipped are.
A long time ago, hard drives were shipped w/bad sectors. But now it's basically unheard of.
Can't wait until LCD fab progresses to that point.
Kudos to those manufactures with 1 dead pixel policy.
