Newest BIOS cannot recognize harddisk/touchpad

Question

I downloaded newest BIOS from Dell site for my Inspiron 8000, and installed it as instructed (via create floppy disk image technique), but now the computer no longer recognizes that it has a harddisk, or a touchpad mouse. I installed Windows XP Professional on this laptop last year (it originally shipped with Windows 2000 Professional) I would like to revert back to my old BIOS, but cannot find any links to any information on how to find old versions of BIOS. Also, I cannot find any release notes on the newest BIOS, and would like to read the ALL the release notes for ALL BIOS versions related to my Inspiron 8000 but cannot find any related information. I tried to run Dell Diognostic program for Inspiron 8000 on my laptop, but that software cannot be setup and run because it requires a mouse to click on OK Button (now how stupid is that). As mentioned above the newest BIOS does not recognize touchpad or external mice. Good luck diagnosing that, heyya ;) I upgraded to newest BIOS to fix some random (and fairly rare) problems I was experiencing with external USB keyboard/mice, but the BIOS upgrade has rendered my laptop completely useless because of not recognizing harddisk, and standard touchpad mouse. Hi,   You may have a hardware fault. Try an exernal mouse, and run the Diags. Also, look in Bios, can you see the HDD ? In your model, the cable to the palm-rest can come loose, ( next to the KBD cable on the MBD ) it may need a reseat. If the touchpad doesnt work in Diags, I would start looking there.                                                                             Regards Chris
