No audio

I recently sent my Dell Inspiron B130 for warranty work they replaced the motherboard and keyboard.  When I received my notebook, my audio did not work.   The audio was fine before I sent it in to Dell.  Volume settings are fine, no mute and it does have audio when I put in headphones.   A Dell Technician told me it was my hard drive and I had to replace it.  I don't believe him.  I have gone through many diagnostics, perhaps a wire did not get re connected.  Not sure how safe it is to open notebook.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are getting audio okay through the headphones then it is definitely not the hard drive. Could be a bad hp jack where the internal contacts are not mating when you remove the headphone plug.

If still under warranty then don't do anything that might invalidate it. If not under warranty anymore then try putting plug halfway into the jack and wiggling it gently.

Oops, should have said to first run Dell Diagnostics audio test to confirm that it is a hardware problem. If you hear audio from the speakers during the test then it is probably a configuration problem.

To run Diagnostics restart the computer and as soon as it starts to boot up hold down f12. Select 'Diagnostic' from the boot menu. It will run some tests for a couple of minutes before the Diagnostic comes up. When it does select 'custom', then the audio test. This will test your audio system independently of Windows and drivers.

Jim thanks for the input.  This is still under warranty and Dell has made arrangements to pick up the notebook.   Unfortunately I am having another problem with this, my battery no longer charges and plugging the PC without the battery does not work - so they need to address this as well.  It has been frustrating because this is the 3rd time in less than a year I have had to send in my notebook, in addition I have gone through 4 power cords that have failed on me.  Very frustrating
