Thanks for the reply! I've already downloaded and installed the QuickSet driver and it had no effect on the volume control buttons by the power button. However, it did allow me to see a graphical representation of the volume level when I pressed the Fn+End, etc. combination. Any other ideas?
We've noticed this problem in our company with two specific models: D600, and a D800. Unfortunately the problem has been exposed by the same user. The D800 was ditched because of other problems, and was deemed a lemon. Unfortunately now we are experiencing the same volume control problems with the D600! He does a lot of presentations, so he uses them quite frequently, in comparison to your average user.
We've tried using the image provided by DELL for awhile, and can still re-produce the problem. Tried re-installing the latest version of Quickset, updating the System BIOS, Audio Drivers, etc. Nothing seems to keep it working 100% of the time.
I've searched through the forums, and it appears some people have experienced this as well, though there is no true solution I could find posted?
I am experiencing this issue on a Latitude D800. My Fn + PgUp or PgDn do not work, and neither do the volume controls that are near the hinge of the display.
I can't figure this out. Surely someone has a solution?

New D610 and no sound what-so-ever. Very unhappy with my product! At least it looks like you are getting sounds just having troubles with the controls.
Thanks for all the replies so far! As I use my laptop more (I got it used on eBay), I'm learning more and more about it's oddities. For some reason, the volume controls will only work if I hold down the plastic molding around the controls and press down hard on the buttons. For awhile, I had the same trouble with the power button, but since I replaced the on/off switch circuit board the problem has improved. The green lights that indicate that the computer is powered on and functioning properly also will only work occasionally. But since these lights and the volume controls are non-essential to the overall performance of the laptop, I have learned to live with it.
I amnow back to the same problem. I have to reload and reinstall the dell quickset every week. Seems like after I use the PC off the port replicator, it has problems. Dell is sending me a hinge??
Like I've mentioned in my previous post, we still have yet to find a true solution to this problem. We have a user who had a D800, and then we ditched it due to other hardare problems, and he is now using a D600, and experiencing the same problems.
We've tried updating the BIOS, Re-Imaging with our own custom image, Re-imaing with Dell's factory image, swapping motherboards, the volume control itself, re-installing the most recent versions of Quickset available at the time, and most recently have tried installing another 3rd Party Tool (Microsoft Intellitype), which still does not work 100% of the time.
XP might deal with volume controls differently, but unfortunately that is not a solution for us, as our current standard is Windows 2000. No idea what to do. We've tried everything Dell has said, and the problem still exists.
I have updated my BIOS and completely reinstalled the audio driver and the notebook software. Still my volume controls above the keyboard do not work, and neither do my function keys.
I too have a Latitude D800, it's about 6 months old, and the Fn-volume controls and the volume buttons are inop. except that when they are tried, the volume representation appears on the screen, but does not adjust. I can adjust the volume, only by using the volume icon in lower right.
I ve deleted and reinstalled Quickset, any other suggestions?
