P4 versus Centurion Performance
Which is better performance wise for graphics and multimedia? A P4 or a Centerion M. Basically the top of the line 5100 versus the top of the line 8600 (not taking the graphics card situation into effect)

Truth be told, you'll be just as happy, if not more happy (because of added battery life), with a 1.7 or 1.6 Ghz P-M (Centrino) as with a 2.4 Ghz - 2.5 P4-M.

My opinion:
PM--P4
1.3=2.0
1.4=2.2
1.5=2.4
1.6=2.6
1.7=2.8

Apparently, multiply by a factor of 1.9 to get-
1.4 Centrino = 2.66 P4
1.6 Centrino = 3.04 P4
1.7 Centrino = 3.23 P4
After using both, I see no reason to doubt the figures above-my 1.7 Centrino D800 EASILY keeps up with my 3.06GHz 5150, and betters it in most applications, and is configured similarly.

I've heard the multiply factor to be 1.5
For example my 1.6ghz would equal out to a 2.4 P4 mobile.
I think this is more realistic.

These don't scale directly to P4's, so for some applications, you could very well use a multiplier of 1.9...
In any case, they're a lot more fuel efficient and so far my 500m is a lot more stable than my friends 8500. They also run a lot colder with her temperatures reaching 140 degrees F, mine never passing 110.

Here's a link that's been posted before by somebody. It goes into detailed description of the Pentium M processor and has some benchmark comparsions.

It all really depends on what you're doing when your comparing the centrino with other pentium 4's.
If you're really into it, here's the link for the entire article: http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.html?i=1800&p=1
