PC Check Up/Memory Tests Failure

I just received a Inspiron 1720 for Christmas.

While running the PC Checkup, 3 of the Memory Tests failed:

Memory Address Test
Memory Bit High Test
Memory Checkerboard Test

I contacted Dell Support and they sent me REFURBISHED memory with NO instructions on how to install it (I'm not tech-savvy in the least).

Is there any point of re-contacting Support and asking for NEW memory?

As a side note, I also got the "AC Adaptor is not recognized" error and they sent a replacement adapter, which I haven't tried yet.

Power off the laptop remove the battery, flip the laptop over and undo the screw on the compartment marked M lift the compartment off and remove the memory modules one at a time by spreading the arms apart that hold it in and do the same for the module underneath.Replace the modules one at a time screw the compartment back on replace the battery and now would be a good time to use the ac adapter to plug it in.Power on laptop and you are ready to go.

Thanks for the assistance!

I'm not happy AT ALL with getting refurbished memory, though. I've had this laptop for 9 days!

The refurb memory you recieved from dell is not bad it has just been removed from another like system(probably),and dell usually sends out hynix, kingston,or samsung memory so it should be all right.however in the event you have a problem with it return it to see if you recieve a different brand.

Well, both memory sticks have been replaced with what Dell sent me. After running the PC Checkup again, 1 of the previously failed memory tests passed. The Memory Address Test AND Memory Checkboard Test failed again. The error says the same thing: Failed: InternalErrorPostEvent - Internal Exception in DiagModule::start():index out of bounds : expected value in [0,-1], but encountered the value 1Stack Trace: (end stack trace)****NOTE****: Use stacktraceparser.exe to translate the instruction offsets into function names. I have NO idea what any of this means! Help! Message Edited by Ad Lady on 01-04-2008 03:45 PM

One of the sticks is bad put in 1 stick at a time until you find the one that is faulty.
