PCI Simple Communications Controller detection

Question

Problem: Cannot resolve the PCI Simple Communications Controller detection. I cannot find a solution to correct the Device Manager entry under Other Devices, where this appears with question mark/exclamation mark.

Everything else in Device Manager tallies just fine, including the Conexant modem.

Under the General tab in properties, it lists the 'location' as, PCI bus 3, device 1, function 5. In details it has a 'Device Instance Id' of PCI/VEN_104C&DEV_8038&SUBSYS_01821028&REV_00/4&2FA23535&0&0DF0 but that probably isn't helpful to note either.

I'm an IT Admin and this is not hindering any operations, it's just an annoying little mystery I would love to resolve.

I have the exact same problem with my Latitude D610.  I recently had to reload Windows XP Pro due to driver conflicts and I have installed all the drivers that came with my laptop and the error you have came up on mine.   I have tried everything I can think of.  The original drivers were pre-installed on my hard drive.  First thing I did was backup the drivers to a CD for future use.  So I know I have all the correct drivers for my laptop.   Additional information is in the properties of this device the following appears>   PCI Bus 3, Device 1, Function 5   Anyone out there that can help, please advise. If you had a Latitude D610 and you received this error, then here is the fix for it.   The device controller is Texas Instruments PCI6515 Flash Memory/Smart Card Controller   Download the following driver from Dell.  R111541.EXE.   Go to http://support.dell.com and search for the Latitude D610 drivers and downloads. This driver is under 'Chip Set'  It is the Texas Smart Card Driver.    The R111541.exe is a self-extrating zip file.  It will automatically install the driver for the device.   This is it!!   OK, next you want to know how I found this? Simple, googled the following information: PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_8038&REV_00 drivers.   This is from the properties from Device manager. The website is:   http://www.pcidatabase.com/ and I just scrolled down the list and found the above information and whla!!!! Message Edited by fudgieguys on 08-29-200610:33 PM
