PCMCIA and Virtual Memory

Recently purchased a Latitude C600, upgraded the OS to win 2000. Has 256MB Ram and 10GB HD.
Installed a Motorola WN825G wireless PCMCIA card. Everything works fine as far as connecting to the network, however, when the card is installed it consumes almost all of my virtual memory. I had to increase the virtual memory to almost 2GB to get it to work and allow me to open programs.

I'd recommend getting the battery/BIOS thing out of the way before you attempt any more troubleshooting regarding the card.  I'll inquire again regarding the unanswered question about the Service Packs (as well as all other Critical Updates), because that may have some bearing on the problem, too.

Have you flashed the BIOS to the most recent version?  Are all Service Packs installed?  If not, you should do both.  That card worked fine in my C600 with Win2k SP4 and BIOS version A23, although it's a bit more of a resource hog than the Linksys WPC54G card.  I didn't have to make any adjustments to the Virtual Memory, either.

For what it's worth, both those cards work better under WinXP SP2, so that might be something else to consider.

I tried to update the BIOS and it wouldn't let me, error message said it was due to a bad battery (which I knew when I bought it). I might borrow a battery from work and see if i can do it that way. I think the BIOS on it now reads ver A16 or A18, I forget which.

Thanks for your help. All of the Service Packs and Critical Updates are installed. I steal the bosses battery temporarily and update the BIOS ASAP and see.

That should do the trick.  You might want to set your virtual memory back to the default, and then try the card.  If everything else is properly configured, you shouldn't need to make any changes to that, for the card to work properly.
