Precision M4800

I try to connect my laptop with a Samsung TV using HDMI.

I plugged the HDMI cable, the TV set activate his HDMI source.

The PC can't find the HDMI device!

I have W7 pro 64bit.

What can I do?

Hi marinica,

Thanks for the post! I would start by making sure the television is detected by your system. You can check this by right clicking the desktop and navigating to “Screen Resolution” from here the onboard display should be listed along with the external TV.

If not, double check the cabling and swap out with known good if available. Make sure the video drivers are up to date from the support site (Dell Command Update is a great tool to do this automatically for you http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=H2CN6&fileId=3439537341&osCode=W764&productCode=precision-m4800-workstation&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SM) Depending on the GPU installed in your system you may also be able to find another driver version to test from the manufacturers website.

Let us know how it goes, and for more comprehensive troubleshooting advice please see the guide below.

Hello Shawn,

The TV goes with HDMI and current cable connected to an old DELL Inspiron 1525.
My laptop, Precision M4800, use it daily with an auxiliary monitor, connected with a VGA cable.
When I connected my laptop to the HDMI cable, the TV felt the presence of an HDMI sources (HDMI input became active into the input source list). But PC monitor did not detect than mobile (my laptop display) and nothing else.
During these tests, VGA monitor was disconnected.
I connected my laptop to the TV using a VGA cable and I could set the new display and watch the desired movie.
I do not know what may have HDMI interface, which I never used it before. I want to connect two auxiliary monitors and I thought that I can use HDMI for the second.
It is possible to connect two or three auxiliary monitors using the DisplayPort output?

BR,

Cristian (my real name)

Hi Christian,

With all of the Drivers updated and the software configured correctly you shouldn’t have a problem display duel monitors on this system with DP or HDMI.

If you’re using any adapters in your set up, if possible, I’d try without, they are common points of failure in any multiple monitor configuration. Depending on your configuration the set up for HDMI / DP connections can be changed through the Nvidia or AMD control panel as wel as Windows display properties. Here are a couple of quick guides from the manufacturers to help set up external displays through the manufacturers software.
