Precision M6300, Docking Station & Windows XP problems

I have a Precision M6300 with Windows XP SP2 installed, and a Port Replicator PR01X.  When I first received this new laptop, I set it all up on the port replicator and it worked great.  However recently I started noticing that when I reboot the computer when it is attached to the port replicator, that it would turn off the port replicator and revert to running on battery and disabled all connected peripherals.  I was, for a time, able to take the laptop off the docking station, power cycle the docking station, then reset it back on the docking station and it worked.  However I can no longer do this.

It would appear that Windows XP is the culprit.  For some reason, when it detects that the laptop is on a port replicator, it will boot and ALWAYS turns off the port replicator.  If I allow it to continue to boot in this way, I eventually get a 'blue screen of death' during the Windows XP loading sequence.

From what I can tell, the problem is in the Hardware Profiles in Windows XP.  I want to be able to force hardware profiles to be completely reset from scratch, but when I go into Device Manager and delete the hardware profiles from there, I'm always left with the one default one that I can't delete and it never seems to make any difference.

Has anyone had this problem with Dell Laptops, Windows XP and Port Replicators before?  If so, can you point me to any resources so I can resolve this?  Right now I cannot use my laptop on my port replicator which is becoming a pain since I travel a lot.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
