try updating the video driver from the dell support website http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx? using your service tag from the back of laptop under video card find the one which matches your laptop use intel one if you have an integrated otherwise use the one which you ordered

I too am facing the exact same problem. I tried contacting dell tech support. I installed the latest driver provided by them. Still the problem persists. Now they are suggesting to send the laptop back so that they can check it themselves. Any other possible solutions for this issue?

I notice that if i disable the powerplay in the ati CCC the problem disappear, i also have tried to update my driver, but nothing change.

Another thing is that in the event register of windows, when i unplugged the power cord a message from intelppm, Id 2 tell me that the object acpi2.0 return a value invalid of 4...

Tha last thing i can try is to reinstall windows...

Hey.
I also had tried the same thing and the problem is gone now. I disabled the power play in the catalyst control center.

Thanks for the post, I have the exact same problem. Do you think it is hardware or a driver issue? The "close lid" fix works but is annoying. So far I have disabled Powerplay as the solution (finally figured that out after searching forever and finding nothing). Have you contacted Dell about this? Is it a know issue? I have a friend with a 9400 with the ATI X1400 and he can use Powerplay without a problem regardless of how often he plugs/unplugs the power. I have done two reinstalls from the hidden Dell partition and nothing has improved.
