Does it always happen? I have the FreeAgent Seagate 250GB external hard drive and sometimes Windows wont read it when I plug it in to the USB. I take it out, restart, and it works, or I plug it in to another computer, and it works there, which somehow makes it work when I put it back into the original computer (where it wasn't working).

Well I tried that and now the computer's does not even see the hard drive.

The External Drive makes a noise like it trying to start up and it keeps clicking.  Also the Blue light on the front sometimes does not want to stay on.

I have e-mail a company about the issue they said it was a physical problem with the drive and they can look at for $225.00.  If there is something wrong I will have to pay more up to $2700.00.

Any one have any other ideas.  I was thinking about opening up the external hard drive and trying to put it into a new external case and see if that work.

Ideas?

Hi,

Newbie fred here.  I have a Insp. 9300 also, it has the 4 pin 1394 / firewire output, which I'd like to hook an external drive to.  However, most new drives have a 6 pin 1394.

Can I use a 4 pin to 6 pin cable?  DELL says yes (coming from a guy in India reading from God knows what), and seagate says no.

Anyone have a clue?

Thanking you all in advance,

Fred
