Problem with system shutdown

Shutdown problem with Dell Laptop and Keyspan Server

A few weeks ago I bought two new Dell computers. I brought most software, files and settings from the two old Windows XP SP2 computers.

Finally I installed the Keyspan USB 2.0 Server software Which, btw, is sold by Dell. This gives access to my EPSON printer via ethernet. There was no problem here. Printing works exactly right.

Here is the problem that began right after the Keyspan software install:

Intermittently, Windows shutdown (and sleep) apprears to hang and the system reboots and then gives the screen that sez Windows didn't properly shutdown, select how to restart, etc. Regardless of restart selection the system comes up and acts normally EXEPT the cooling fan runs at a fast speed constantly. If I force power off at the "bad shutdown" screen It comes up with the fan running normally. Even if I select restart in SAFE mode it will almost always fail to shutdown properly from SAFE mode and repeat the reboot.

Strange though, that it will shutdown or sleep normally many times giving the impression that the problem has resolved it's self but then go back to failing most of the time.

Both new Dells behave the same. Other computers, XP and Vista do not have the problem.

When I uninstall Keyspan everything works normally. Reinstall and the problem is back exactly the same.

I have tried every combination of MSCONFIG startup and services with no change in behavour. I thought for sure disabling the Keyspan driver would stop the problem but no. Shutdown fails even with ALL startups and services disabled!

I have Keyspan folks "researching" the problem but no answers yet.

Any ideas on how to trouble shoot this problem?

No other advice really. this obviously is a keyspan compatibility issue. they may or may not be able to fix it.

You are pursuing it the only way you can at this point by asking them.

Please do post the fix if you get one.
